The Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority (SLGA) is seeking six (6) Part-Time Peak Season Material Handlers within the Supply Chain and Distribution Branch for the summer peak season which starts in May and ends mid-September.
- Peak Season Workers will be assigned shifts during the peak-season period. This is a part-time opportunity and there is no minimum guarantee of hours.
- Shifts may be available Sunday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
- Peak Season Workers must present their availability for the advertised peak season period as well as during weekdays or weekends.
- Upon successful hire, candidates will be required to obtain safety shoes at their own cost.
- Peak Season Workers may be recalled by seniority in subsequent peak seasons, subject to a positive performance appraisal.
As a Material Handler, you are responsible for safely using the Walkie Rider. This involves picking cases and loading liquor products into semi-trucks and trailers to fulfil orders for liquor stores while maintaining quality assurance. Additionally, you are required to operate powered mobile equipment, count warehouse inventory, maintain warehouse security, and complete general housekeeping tasks.

- Ensure orders are properly wrapped and packaged for shipment.
- Safely load liquor products into outbound trailers and trucks in a timely manner.
- Conducting inspection and executing basic repair of pallets such as reattaching boards and restacking if unrepairable.
- Safely handle damaged products, including recording, repackaging, and taking the unsellable units to the breakage room. Also, maintain the cleanliness of and organize the breakage room.
- Accurately record inventory statuses and ensure deliveries match purchase orders.
- Safely operate the warehouse equipment while loading liquor products for shipments.
- Conduct pre-inspections of warehouse equipment to identify any mechanical concerns which could result in a lockout.
- If trained, backfill for Machine Operators when coverage is needed to ensure optimal operation of the warehouse. Backfill dues may entail but are not limited to replenishments, clearing the r-dock, ensuring aisle 36 is properly stacked, and relief for impromptu meetings, coffee, or lunch breaks.
- Conduct general housekeeping dues as needed and any other dues assigned.
- Knowledge of safe lifting techniques.
- Must demonstrate an attitude of safety by always ensuring the safety of self and others within the workplace.
- Ability to safely operate warehouse equipment during stressful and/or high-traffic conditions and in tight spaces.
- Ability to recognize potential and real safety risks to self and others; evaluate the risks and take steps to minimize and/or quickly resolve the safety issues or concerns; report the safety issues, concerns, or incidents.
- Demonstrated ability to organize and complete high-volume workloads to meet required objectives within established timeframes.
- Must obtain a valid Operator’s Certification Card for Powered Industrial Vehicles for a:
- Walkie Rider with a capacity of 6,000 pounds
- Sit-Down Counterbalance High Li with a capacity of 2,000 pounds to assist with backfill dues for Machinery Operators – if trained*.
- Stand-Up Reach Truck with a capacity of 3,600 pounds – if trained*.
Physical Requirement
- Ability to be able to push, pull, lift, and carry weights up to 23 kg (51 pounds).
- Successful completion of an independent physical assessment based on bona fide occupational requirements for hearing, vision, strength, and flexibility must be done before employment.
The Material Handler is required to manoeuvre and operate warehouse equipment in a congested and/or tight workspace. Fine motor skills are required to operate radio frequency equipment and warehouse machinery controllers. In the warehouse environment, the Material Handler works near heavy moving equipment; is exposed to exhaust fumes, dust, dirt, noise, extreme temperature fluctuations, equipment vibration, chemical and alcohol fumes, as well as handling hazardous materials such as broken glass, batteries, mold, and cleaning supplies.
The Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to minimize exposure to hazards that may cause serious workplace injuries are safety vests and steel-toe boots.
The days of operation are from Sunday to Friday and occasionally Saturdays. This position has a rotating schedule that will include working on weekends.
